Powerfilm: Practical Farmers to host irrigation demo

Practical Farmers of Iowa will host a demonstration of a 96-foot high tunnel that catches rain water to be used for irrigation of vegetables at a field day Monday, July 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the farm of Linda and Randy Naeve near Boone.
The Naeves say that up to 1,800 gallons of water run off from the 30-foot by 96 foot high tunnel at their vegetable farm. A pump system, powered by PowerFilm inc. gathers the water for reuse on the crops inside the high tunnel. The public is invited to the demonstration at the farm located at 753 Nature Road, Boone.
“We decided to put gutters on our gothic-style high tunnel at the time of construction so thta we do not need to do a dditional drainage work around the high tunnel to a ccommodate the water runoff and potential puddling,” Randy Naeve said.
